"Anyone have suggestions on 'must sees', or routes to take? Especially through Texas, would it be worth following the coast line and then heading west in southern Texas? Good routes through New Mexico? Any campouts along the way? Safety tips? (I won't be staying in rest stops!)"

How exciting, Diana!

If you have any interest or curiosity about this area, here's a link to staying/camping/seeing places in the area: http://freespace.virgin.net/john.cletheroe/usa_can/usa/fourcorn.htm

There are several listers in Utah and we're on the Rescue Squad list: http://www.type2.com/rescue/map.html

This link has a huge number of links to VW resources: http://www.bcn.net/~limbo/links.html

Wishing you a fantastic trip and my admiration to you for doing this. What a great "leap".
