Good for you. Did I suggest this to you before? Buy the Lonely Planet type guide books for the USA and, where available, get the regional guide books too (Southwest and Greatlakes) and read, read, read. These books are a wealth of information, full of local colour. Also, stay off the interstate highways. In getting your van ready for the trip, any economy is false economy, make sure your van is in A1 condition. Find a good subject line for posts to the list with your stories, so that we can recognixe your posts. Or find a good photo hosting site (I suggest www.smugmug.com as one can have UNLIMITED storage and one can mix words with photos, and it's easy to use (bulk uploads) $50/year).

Take care, Malcolm (Halifax)
