Back in 1979, while doing a documentary on a Baptist community in Southern Alberta, The question re energy conservation was put before the family patriarch. This a man who farmed 4 sections of land, custom farmed another eight sections for neighbors and ran a fertilizer (petroleum based) operation and a general store. His response was, to paraphrase, "the end of the world is near. There is no need to conserve for times beyond 2024" (or something close to that). Is this mindset that is setting the agenda in washington?
