I'm a total gas mileage freak too. 7 of us recently completed a 120 mile wine tasting tour through the hilly countryside of northwestern Michigan in Vera, my 1987 Vanagon Wolfsburg Edition. At the conclusion of the trip I topped off the tank and determined that under those conditions I still managed to get 19 mpg. Vera has a four speed manual tranny and 169,000 miles. Bless her heart.
