These sound to me like they may be passenger car tires, and if so, there is no inflation that will make them safe to use on your Vanagon. You need to read the tire sidewall, and find out if they have the proper load and inflation capacities for your Vanagon. (See http://busdepot.com/busdepot/details/tires.jsp for more information.) If so, then inflate them to the psi noted on your drivers door pillar and you're all set. If not, replace them, as they are unsafe for use on this vehicle.
