I think the color you want is "Titian Red" LB3V (note spelling), vs "Titan Red."

"Titian" is listed as a color for the 87-89 model years on vanagon.com. Also, poke around www.paintscratch.com (recommended by GoWesty for touch up paint). While their paint search database isn't totally complete, it shows "Titian" as an 88 Vanagon color and "Titan" as a Golf color.

Might want to check w/ dealer just to confirm, though.
