Your looking at just about the best your 2.1 is going to gve for mpg. other than adding a JATO assist system.

You might bump it up a half mile per gallon more by cruising at no moe than 55 mph and addiing type F fluid to the trans to help the clutches grab better, but you'll hardly never see 16 mpg. in an automatic Vanagon.

If someone makes ridiculous claims otherwise, they are blatantly pevaricating.

I really chuckle when I see claims of 21 mpg with a stick Vanagon.

Hi trying to work a bit better gas mileage out of my 1986 VanagonGL with automatic transmission.

Right now, I am getting a little over 15MPG with mixed Street/Highway driving. What can I do to get this mileage up higher. I have asked about mileage before up here, and gotten indications that my mileage is low.>>
