Subject:      Regarding cell phones, gender bashing, and Luddites

For Internet connectivity I have T-mobile phone with GPRS capability. The 
phone, a Blackberry, retrieves e-mail automatically when I'm out and about. 
I can also do simple Web surfing (such as finding a phone number, etc...) 
from the phone. The phone will also connect via USB to my laptop to allow my 
laptop to get online if a bigger screen (say, sending e-mail) is desired.

Why Internet and cell phones? Well, cell phones are pretty handy for digging 
yourself out of a mess (break downs) and for staying in contact with 
important ones when on the road. The cell phone is actually what enables me 
to take a longer holiday sometimes. As far as e-mail is concerned, let's say 
grandm and grandpa do a lot of travel, sure is handy for them to stay in 
contact with the kids and grand kids via e-mail and the likes.

Not to mention that the same computer can be used for GPS tracking and trip 
planning as well as resource finding (Where's the next campground? Ah, the 
GPS software shows it!).

So, Luddites beware, there are useful reasons to take technology on the 
road.

Our culture is going to pot. I hope we can live without the cell phone and
Internet connection for just a few hours a day.

I'm trying to envision a cartoon with a woman (usually) walking or driving
with a cell phone at her ear, or a compulsive need to be connected to the
Internet 24/7. When will it end?

What bugs me most is people (mostly women) who talk on the cell phone the
most intimate conversation in public like we want to know. For God's sake
walk out the door to a private area for your cell phone conversation and
 leave your lap to at home or Stan Wilder will put a well deserved curse on
you.
