Robert,

Believe what you want - if you want to believe that my odometer and GPS system are incorrect about the number of miles traveled, or that the gas pump lies about the amount of gas pumped, that is your privilege. You can check my math if you like - 235.9 miles traveled, 13.000 gallons of regular (@ $2.039 per gallon - ouch!). This was on March 18, 2005. Shell gas.

BTW, 1988 GL with no middle seat, unloaded, Michelin Agilis tires at 50 PSI, Mobile 1 and Redline synthetics throughout (including Redline ATF). A/C equipped but not used (since it needs a recharge and doesn't work). No miracles or snake oil, unless you count the synthetic oil as snake oil...

Or perhaps you think I am a liar - either way, you are entitled to your opinion, even if it differs from my facts... ;-)

Don,

I'm still roaring at this post.

3 automatic Vans, all in perfect state of tune, unloaded, the tires rock hard, with a tailwind, at the snails pace of 55 mph, the best ever mpg, I ever got out of any of them was 15.62.

Maybe your running Slick 50 or some other miracle in a can in your van, that I'm not.--:)

<<Thanks for the information. It's weird though, my last fill up on my 1988 Vanagon GL (automatic) the van took exactly 13 gallons (OK, I topped it to 13 gallons, it wanted to cut off before) and went 235.9 miles, for 18.1 miles per gallon. I've verified the odometer against my GPS...I must be driving it wrong. Must be a fluke, normally it only gets 17 MPG. Don in Reidsville, NC>>
