Jerry,

I wouldn't worry about it (in fact, since my '88 does it too, I don't worry about it) as long as it goes away after a brief period, and as long as you change the oil and filter regularly.

Do make sure that you use the Mann or Mahle oil filters, as the generic (Fram, Autolite, etc.) filters tend to have weaker anti-drain back springs that can cause this issue to happen more frequently.

My 1990 Carat, with 85,000 miles, has a noisy lifter after sitting for a few days without being started. The oil and filter are changed every 3,000 miles and the oil looks very clean at 3,000. It takes about 8-10 minutes before the lifter quiets down. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Jerry
