Don't nick or fracture the control wire in the process of reforming the end. Use round nose pliers, pliers with eased edges (chain link pliers?) or a piano wire bending tool. If you hear ANY crackling while you are bending it, it has been ruined. You can anneal the end, but it must be shielded so that the annealing does not extend beyond the bend. Also, annealing the end might cause it to wear out sooner than if it had not been annealed.
