In over 30 years of VW's i've never had the pleasure of a wheel bearing going, but I sure have replaced a few CV joints. Those little devils allways made the same sqeeking sound when navigating a corner, or turning to enter a street or driveway.....then when the wheels returned to the straight position the sqeeking would stop. Always was one CV never 2 at the same time but I allways replaced them in pairs....i like punishment. Hope this helps.
