Heres my secret
Wallmart has Iron on patches in the fabric section that match perfectly!  (at
least tan)
I used multiple patches and applied them on both sides overlapping the next
by about a quarter inch.
I did a eighteen inch tear this way and it works perfect( it rained like  mad
fri night)  and looks great too.
Its been on there over a year with no sign of lifting.
I used a folded towel to Iron against for support.
