This may be known to many of you, but I confirmed tonight that the LCD clock from 85-92 Golf/Jettas is a direct fit for the Vanagon unit which seems to fail so often. I just swapped the one from my spare Jetta cluster and it is identical - just remove two screws and swap them across. The Vanagon screws are longer to accommodate the clear plastic cover. Also interesting to note is the plastic on the 4 or 5 Jetta clusters I've worked on never falls apart like the Vanagon ones. Maybe there is something to that theory about brake fluid fumes...
