Water bowl: I place a 1 Qt. size plastic bowl inside an inexpensive plastic cat litter box. The water bowl inevitably gets knocked over - but the water just goes in the cat litter box so I do not need to stop and replenish the water bowl. This has worked well for 5 years - easy to place by the front kitchen cabinet, easy to clean up, and easy to store @ home.

Food Container: Rubbermaid rectangular storage container that I leave open while the van is underway. For one of my dogs, this is the only time she will eat on the road - while the van is moving.

I have never had a fool-proof leash set-up, but I do like the suggestion of attaching the long leads to the cross-bar of the pop-top.

My dogs (two German Shorthairs) ride in a variety of places in the van - front seat when available, on the floor between the seats, and in the back. When the dogs are with me, I always have the seat down in back - it gives the dogs more maneuvering room. I cover the bed area with a military poncho liner that keeps the dog mess to a minimum. My favorite view from my rear-view mirror was when I was driving on US Hwy. 2 in MT through bumpy road construction - there in the back was Greta, laying on her back, feet in the air. Now that's a relaxed dog! When she departs us and goes to Doggie Valhalla, I may just need to bury her in the van!
