I had this same problem on an old VW of mine a couple weeks ago. I removed the rear drums to see what was going on and the friction material was almost completely delaminated from the metal part on one shoe. The linings were as new otherwise. On the edge of the separated lining were the words "Made In Canada", with zero wear visible on the ============== This must obvioulsy be the problem ;-) I've got a new pair of brake shoes at home, and I'll take a look and see if I can spot any difference in how the lining is attached on the new and failed one.

lining. I would sure like to think that this was a one in a million occurrence. The vehicle had sat for some unknown number of years but that hardly excuses the failure.
