This must be a common dope-slapper among VW mechanics. When an experienced VW tech mashed my flap, he readily admitted it later, but flat out refused to replace it. I even offered to split the retail price with him, so with his wholesale cost, it would have cost him next to nothing, but he still just shrugged and blinked at me.

Eventually, he blamed it on his idiot son, who also claims to be a renowned VW mechanic but seems no smarter than his forebear. Apparently, the son had been working on my Vanagon because Pa had recently inserted his foot in the blade of a running lawnmower.

Considering the combined mental and mechanical abilities of this hayseed duo, I considered myself fortunate to drive away under my own power ...
