The extension tube was missing from my '86. It is possible to just pull the thing completely out and a PO might have done that for you. I found one on an 85 and put it in. I like it. it has a flange that is pinched between the cap and the threads which it threads onto. So if you see no flange here, yours is probably gone. Edward
