The Syncro fuel gauge sender can be changed with the tank in place. When you break a stud, no biggie. The studs are attached to two half moon plates. Push the remaining stud into the tank, reach in and grab the plate. Then you can press out and replace the stud with a bolt, braze or tack weld it in place.

And...another one...fuel leak from le left side of the fuel tank...Not the pump, not the hoses and NO, not the fuel tank outlet... i suspect a crack in the FIBERGLASS tank..or maybe it's comming from the fuel sender hole...not sure....but some of you may remember that van...the Titanic one: http://www.benplace.com/vanagon_engine1.htm

Benny Boy, the fuel leak is most likely part of the fuel sender which has rusted away. Sorry to say you gotta get the tank outta there. And, good luck getting the nuts off the perimeter of the sender without breaking one or more of the studs. If you break some you can fix them as your quite ingenious ! BTW, are you going to Tadusac next weekend ? I'm leaving here, probably with Marcus and Natilie, Friday afternoon sometime. I could meet up with you outside Montreal. Let me know.
