to squirt the front washer, you PULL the lever toward the steering wheel. if you cannot hear the pump running, you might want to check and make sure there's 12 volts at the pump. pump might have died. but first, fill up the washer tank. that's usually the problem for first time owners. ;) when you sit in the front seat, the filler cap is under the carpet, about where your left foot normally rests. and when you start filling it, you might hear water running out onto the ground. that's normal. sorta. it means quit filling. :) what happens is that the gasket between the tank and the filler neck (up to the filler cap under the carpet) shrinks over the years and there's a gap. so once the tank itself is full, anything up in the neck is gonna run out onto the ground. not much you can do ... a new gasket will only shrink again in a few years. so when you hear the fluid hitting the ground, stop pouring. ;)

how to check the pump? you have to lay on your back, right in front of the left front wheel. it's easier if the tank is lowered, but be careful of the wires and the plastic tubing (to the washer squirters up at the windshield). you'll have to have someone else in the driver's seat to pull the lever to make it work so you can see if the volts are coming down to the pump.

if you're getting volts and the tank is full and nothing squirts, there might be a kink in the plastic tubing. you can try to find it by removing the headlight grill and following the tubing up. that happened to me once with a 1980 bus. it might also be a dead pump, but you should be able to hear it when the lever is pulled, if it's any good.

if no volts, then you've got to check the lever switch up at the steering wheel. sometimes the little contacts get dirty or bent. i've had to clean and bend them back on several buses.
