There are many heat insulators available for race applications. Try Summit Racing online for starters. I will agree that wrapping the exhaust really helps keep the engine bay cooler and the exhaust gases moving out the tailpipe. Be prepared for the heat insulation to cost as much as a complete Vanagon exhaust system. They do work.
