Do these Vanagon / Porsche conversions typically work well? I have a Porsche 911 with that same 3.2, and I am thinking about buying a Vanagon Westy, so this eBay auction caught my eye. The Porsche 3.2 is air-cooled, I wonder how you keep heating in a 1990 Vanagon? By the way, hello to the list. Let me introduce myself. I'm in the SF Bay Area, looking to buy a Westy (and sell my pickup camper). I'm looking for a vehicle that (1) can be used for everyday around-town errands with the kids, (2) can take the family on camping and ski trips, (3) can be serviced at home (I do all the work on my Porsche, and I figure the cars are vaguely related, aren't they?), (4) is reliable, and (5) gets decent gas mileage. Hopefully I'm pointed in the right direction, looking at a Westy. If the vehicle won't meet my criteria, please tell me! If it will meet my criteria, I'd appreciate hearing of any good ones for sale in the SF Bay Area. Anyway, I'm quite familiar with the Porsche 3.2 motor, and know where to buy used ones in decent shape, so I've thought about transplanting a 3.2 into a Vanagon. More power, and I already know the motor's quirks. I even learned of a company that sells a kit to adapt the 3.2 to a Vanagon. http://msdsinc.com/vanagon_ecs.htm Well, this is all premature, since I haven't even bought a Westy yet. Just thinking. - John Liu
