RE: Locating a vehicle with cell phone w/GPS capability First, any cell phones sold in the last two to three years have a GPS receiver in them. In the case of mine, the phone will only transmit location data if I dial 911, an option that can be set in the menu. Now I don't know if it will work the other way, if 911 called me, would the phone send location data? If so, then theoretically, with a candidate for 'Dumb Crook of The Week', if 911 called my number, and the phone was on, and the thief answered the phone, they might get the info. BTW, does anyone have a newer cell phone that will display the GPS info? It really seems stupid to have a GPS receiver in my hand but not be able to see a display of the data. |
