Well, I ventured to remove the cover on the gearbox and found the cable had gotten sucked into the worm gear. Worked to delicately extricate the cable, then used a small bolt and extra-thin nut to re-attach the plastic lower guide back onto the slide rail. Works good, but that cable got a bit tweaked so it's noisy as it slides through the housing. Don't know how long it'll last. Thanks, that saved me some big bucks for now.
