Subject:      Shelf life of master cylinder?

About two and a half years ago I bought a brand new ATE master cylinder for
my Vanagon. It's basically unopened still in the box. I never  installed it.

Is there any reason not to install a master cylinder that has been shelved
this long? Or is this the kind of sitting time that might be normal even if
buying a master cylinder from say VWOA? Do these things sit in a warehouse for
that long anyway, unknown to the purchaser?
