Hi Trina,

A new park/neutral/reverse switch (two pieces) is still available at the VW dealer, and it was the best $30 I've spent on a VW in some time. I had tried cleaning up the old one; it lasted about 2 weeks. Disconnect the battery, mark the screw hole positions of the old one, and install the new one in the old position. The lower switch half has the contacts with voltage supplied, and screws to the selector base bracket. The upper half just snaps in to a holder and is just a pair of bridged contacts that moves with the shift selector.

By the way, the starter should only engage in "Park" or "Neutral".

Cheers,

Dave Milo

...97% of the time. Sometimes I forget to put it in neutral, and it miraculously starts, but I've gotten used to it and it's usually a habit to put it in neutral to start.

As for the reverse lights, if I hold the lever just in the right position, I can get them to come on (I can hear a "click" if I jiggle the PRiNDLe around).

Any ideas? Is there a DIY that a reasonably sensible, yet not terribly mechanically inclined person could figure out? Any not-in-the-Bentley tips? Or should I just read the Bentley and not bother you?

Thanks, /Trina '91 Automatic MV
