the short answer is no the flywheels are ground to the same dept and the
endplay should not change when the flywheel is swapped out.
 BUT in the real world what ever we assume bites us in the butt

When reinstalling a flywheel on any 2.1 engine you need to proceed with
caution because you run the risk of the dreaded dropped endplay thrust
washer. You know this has happened when you tighten up the flywheel and the
engine locks up.
To prevent damage to the shim seat in the engine block and thrust washer
slowly tighten the bolts after installing the flywheel and move the crank
back and forth to check for binding. When binding takes place the seal and
shims must be removed and the thrust washer put back up in place
 Other endplay fun can include lack of endplay when reading the dial
indicator .I have spent a few hours on this and can tell you that I use new
shims as a simple way to eliminate repeated vague readings with a dial
indicator that worn and bent shims can produce
flywheels with worn shim surfaces can require surfacing. This surfacing
increases the endplay so the long reply is yes they can be different so you
need to check the endplay after installing the flywheel and the bolts are
torqued
Always check endplay at TDC or BDC they have a sweet spot that lets the
crank move just a little more freely

Hello and happy weekend!

Today's question: is end play specific to a flywheel? If I change
flywheels, do I have to reset end play? Or, more appropriate to my
situation - if a rebuilder sets end play and ships to me without a
flywheel, do I have to recheck and reset?
