The last 2 summer trips I have had one wheel bearing go out each trip. The front wheel bearing sounded like a dull roaring over about 60 KPH (40 MPH), that goes away with a sharp right or left turn at speed. The rear wheel bearing just disintegrated. Luckily I was just outside Ottawa and I was fortunate to find a really good guy at a Midas-type shop who let me watch/kibitz/help. Each time, having the Bently manual helped the non-vanagon mechanics.

For people who have limited vacation time, IMHO, any economy in preparing the van for the trip, is false economy. Time is the scarcer resource, not money.
