No flame intended! I read and re-read your post to make sure I understood it. You see, the trained professionals around here (the kids that work at the gas stations) do the work. When the propane starts coming out liquid they stop filling. They all do that so I guess that means the tank is full. But I've never done it so I can't say for sure. If one of these professionals had been filling your tank he would have been able to advise you. That's what I thought. Then I got hung up on the concept that you had been allowed to fill your own tank without supervision or advice . . . and I began to wonder if maybe here things are different than there. In Oregon, you see, you can't put your own gasoline in. The gas station guy has to do it. The first time I visited Oregon I discovered that wonderous fact.

I began to wonder about cultural relativism, maybe the whole propane thing is the same way . . . maybe in places I have not visited with the Westy folks are allowed to play with the propane filling apparatus. Maybe whole neighborhoods have not been torched even after years of amateur propane filling. Heck . . . what do I know?

Thus my question.

I reckon that if I needed to fill my propane tank and the proprietor told me to do it myself I might have a few questions to ask before I did it. One of them might have been, "how will I know it is full?" but probably the first one that would have occured to me to ask would have been "Where's the next propane station?" I admire your courage -- I'd never try it myself.

But if I gave offense, I apologize.
