There was a custom modification made by one (late model year) Vanagon
owner, where he replaced the back ground of the round VW emblem on the
back hatch with a light (note the round VW emblem remained in
place...also note that this round VW emblem is only on later Vanagons.)


The Brazilians have another alternative, which is to replace the round
VW emblem with a lighted round VW emblem. Slightly different effect.
