To operate an RV with the standard type tanks inside (and that included my 5 pounder) is illegal according to NFPA codes. However, portable devices have exemptions. Most fire codes have the 1 pound disposables under the portable devices rules for use in ventilated areas. (not for bathrooms or bedrooms)

When I use my five pound tank, it is attached to the fridge and sits outside the van (portable fridge).
