Subject: idle problem - fixed
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hi,

of interest to I4 owners, esp Digifant...

I fixed a nagging idle problem that started a couple of weeks ago. The symptoms were:

- good idle on cold start - uneven idling for about 10 seconds or more after a warm start - idle drops below 850 rpm for a sec (a little stumble) when accelerator released after high revs

Also the air adjustment screw on throttle body not responding smoothly. Trying to adjust idle (with temp 2 disconnected) was a bit of a pain, hard to get just right.

Yesterday I took off throttle body and cleaned it up. I took out idle adjusting screw and cleaned screw and orifice. It was dirty. All back together now and idle adjustment easy and previous symptoms gone.

The throttle body and intake runners do get oily from the crankcase ventilation system, I suppose cleaning TB is a reg. maintenance thing.

BTW all electrical connections were cleaned, throttle switch operation verified, idle unit working, ign timing spot on, as was valve timing.
