I haven't done a whole canvas, but had to remove the hold-down piece over the slider to put up a home-made awning. I think you can do the whole thing with mostly a screwdriver, but I think there are somewhere around 100 screws, so unless you have a ratchet drive, it might get tiring. The mattresses seem to get in the way as well, so it seems more awkward than plain difficult. The procedure might be covered in the Bentley manual. I think I recall seeing it there.
