I wonder how many of those other vehicles are still on the road all these
years later... and how many of them are turning 200, 250, 300k on the meter?

i love my van, but sometimes i'm a little annoyed that it couldn't have
been engineered to be a bit more reliable.  the new york times just
reported that toyota and gm got top marks in the jd powers poll of 2005
vehicles.  this inspired me to look at vehicles from 1990, the earliest
vehicles for which jd powers has statistics online.  i picked three
comparisons that seemed relavant to me.  the rankings below are for the
"long-term" (4-5 years) reliability.  we could do worse...
