Hirshmann makes a great antenna for the vanagon, if you can actually find one. It's the longest lasting one that I've had on mine so far (I've trashed 3) You can push it completely down into the body so just the nub shows & it has a special "key" that allows you to pull it back out again... great for those off road trips so it does not get caught and bent from any branches.
