If you can get everything into a Vanagon and trailer I'd give serious
thought (at least check out the prices) to packing things up, maybe in
one of the 'Pod' type containers, and having it shipped.  A comparing
to the rental truck, have you figured the cost of gas for two trips? 
Shipping would also save the wear and tear on the Vanagon.
