WOW! Thanks for all the advice on how to get at this bolt! As a last resort, before heading to Autozone, I ended up hammering/tapping my bit into the bolt. Fortunately the bolt was only badly stripped at the top, and there was just enough left at the bottom of the bolt head to loosen the bolt. The joints are repacked and reinstalled, and I just survived the 70 mile highway drive from Olympia to Seattle! Yay! (And just installed a new Hitachi starter from GoWesty) Cheers, Matt On Thu, 26 May 2005, Matt Barclay wrote: > From: Matt Barclay <mbarclay@OPENFBO.COM> > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Stripped CV Joint Bolt > Date: Thu, 26 May 2005 06:57:31 -0700 > > One of the 12-point CV joint bolts on the transmission is stripped.
