You will need to measure the endplay with a tool designed for that. If it is
beyond a certain spec for the engine then shims are installed of the correct
thickness. Depending on engine they usually come in 5 thicknesses and you
use the combination of 3 that gives you the right results.
You may have to take to a shop and have them do it for you if you donšt have
the tools.
The procedure for most engines is to connect flywheel and torque to about 50
percent and measure play.
Make up a shim stack that measure the thickness that total play minus stack
= in spec.
Remove flywheel insert stack and retorque to 75% and check play. Then
finish torque to spec and recheck again.
