Recalling the recent back and forth notes re wireless "computering," I thought some Westy et. al. folks might be interested in this note that came my way from a television colleague. SamC for those wireless networks coming to vermont, this affordable pentium 3 dell computer (with $56 wireless usb device) looks like it could bring a very functional wireless-enabled linux computer to families for just over $150. (with a donated vga monitor from companies, schools and families who have upgraded to lcd monitors.) http://shorterlink.com/?TGXFBU http://www.linuxvoodoo.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/107 i currently favor fedora core 3 linux, the free version of linux from red hat. http://www.redhat.com/fedora/ fedora core 3 comes with openoffice.org as part of the install package. it's pretty exciting that a family could get 3-wireless enabled computers up and going for under $500. these computers could share a printer via the wireless network, too.
