Yes, they are definitely part of the river bed. There was little risk in getting swept away though, as we were in a back eddy which doesn't see the full force of the river, which is a good thing, since the first thing I saw out the rear window was our upside down table floating around in circles... ;-) The river was already higher than usual for May, so I wasn't expecting it to rise that much more. The only other party there was actually on a gravel bar - another few feet and they would be crossing the river to get out. At least where we were it was only 40 feet or so to the exit trail, which had become a small creek of its own...
