That Air Cooled air flow starts with adjustments to the wire cables behind the dash at the slide lever panel. The wires often bend and although the slides move they don't accomplish anything. (you can see these down through the hole when you remove the ashtray). Next is to take out your glove box and make adjustments where the cables clamp to the heater air distribution box. The 'Flapper' boxes under the van above the axles often look good but have burned out the little red rubber flappers inside and allow hot air to pass. The springs on the control cables are often on the wrong side of the cables to operate properly. I must agree about the rear facing floor vent. I exploded several softdrinks that found their way near the vents on extended trips. They sound like gunfire when they explode and coat everything with sticky mess that seems to never end.
