Adam,
     Have no fear, I just did it (California to Florida) with a 1984
Westfalia and I had just replaced the motor about two months before with one
I pulled from the wreckers yard in San Jose. On the list are mainly the
problems that folks encounter but for every problem, there are hundreds of
thousands of miles of great driving in these vans. Check all the things you
can check before the trip and you will have as good a chance as any to get
to the end of your journey safely. You will see many newer vehicles on the
road broken down I can assure.
