Subject: LP, propane regulator adjustment
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello, most 2 stage LP regulators(like the vanagon has) have an adjustment. Ever wonder if yours is set correctly? I contacted Marshall and got the low down from their tech person.I think he is an engineer. He sure knows about these vanagon valves.First of all, the correct replacement valve is the Marshall 290.It is a common valve. A better valve is the Marshall 299. It is uncommon. The difference is the vent location. It is 90 degrees different from the 290,and better for draining condensation. The vent on the 209 must be closest to the ground for proper operation in all conditions. To set the gas pressure, use a manometer. The web site RVERSCORNER.COM/articles/manometer ,offers simple instructions on the use and construction of your very own manometer.Attach the manometer to the brass "T" just after the regulater. Attach it to the branch that goes to the refrigerater.Turn on the 2 burners of the stove. Adjust the plastic adjuster till you have 11 inches of water column.Shut the stove off. Thats it! Higher than normal pressue will cause your pilot on the refrigerater to burn hotter that it should. The vanagon cabin will recieve this extre heat. The refrigerator will not be as cool either, but not because of the greater heat load..The tolerance for proper flame is very slim for correct operation. Higher than normal pressure will also harm your refrigerater. On the other hand, the stove will benifit by providing a larger flame. If your stove has been burning better lately, maybe your valve is out of adjustment(my idea).Mine was. I was using a single stage valve , like found on a gas grill. these are too inaccurate and dont compensate for alittiute or tempature differences very well. The frig wont cool enough.Guess that cooking burgers is less high tech than cooling a gas refrigerater, and gas pressure only needs to be in the ball park for burgers.MMmmmmmm, burgers. Is it dinner yet? .
