It wasn't as hard as I imagined it would be. The sheet metal (perfed, but plain would do just as well) bent into the shallow "U" easily. I made a small flange on the end opposite the combustion chamber and screwed the metal to the fridge, then on the other end it tucked in between chimney and fins. I secured the metal to the fins with wire (fed thru holes on perf sheet and twisted to draw tight).

The bubble wrap insulation was then attached to the outside of the "shroud", along the edges, with smll cable ties, again taking advantage of the perf holes.

I did try using the insulation by itself to make a shroud. I wasn't happy with it, was worry about it melting (who knows!) on the albeit insulated chimney.

Heavy aluminium foil would work, like the real heavy gauge stuff that came with the first generation MSR stoves.

Do let us know how this works! I replaced the stock fan with one of them shiny silver Volterras the last time I was behind mine. I studied the idea of shrouding the fins to build a "wind tunnel" and funnel that air through the fins. Looked complicated. But I guess that just using some bubble wrap or even heavy aluminum foil would work.
