This is very good advice in my experience. Travel light. The more stuff you can leave at home the better the trip will be. If you are only heading to one location more stuff is not such a problem but if you will be traveling and staying at different spots all that stuff will just be in the way everyday. A person traveling alone can adjust and live around the clutter but a couple will go nuts moving things around every time they stop and again when they head out. Bikes can be one of the worst things to bring along. If you are not a hardcore and disciplined rider don't bring them traveling.

I have seen people in natl. parks with their vans so full of stuff they can't move around, let alone get at the stuff they have and they are only out for the weekend. ........ But they only used them once where we met them kayaking, yet for their whole trip, they could hardly move around with all that gear. I'm a recreational private pilot (who has built a few planes) and I'm always aware of weight. Just like when I fly, I check what goes in. My wife gets her bags inspected before boarding. She'll say shouldn't we carry some extra _______ (fill in the blank)? My response is always.... You can buy it anywhere..... why carry it over the pass, wear out your brakes and shorten your stopping distance, when it's waiting fresh over there for ya already. ................
