I use a bike rack that works the same way as the Hollywood rack and haven't had any problems carrying 2 bikes with it.

I have thought about replacing the straps with custom tubing but haven't gotten beyond the consideration stage ... probably because it works the way it is. Maybe when the straps start to wear out .... Hmmmmm
