Sounds like the motors aren't getting power. I don't have my Bentley handy so I can't be much help with which color wires do what, but I've taken apart a couple mirrors so I know what's happening in general. Instead of having two motors in each mirror, on for up-down and one for left-right, those criminal mastermind VW engineers decided to use one motor with a solenoid-activated "transmission". Normally, the motor gears are set to move the mirrors left-right. When you press up or down, the switch energizes the solenoids so the motors "switch gears" to move the mirrors up-down. My guess is that it's either the wire that feeds the motors is loose somewhere, or the switch is slightly hosed. The solenoids are getting power, but not the motors.
