Subject: driving without an exhaust system?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi all, I'm getting ready to finish dealing with my major exhaust problems: studs stuck in the engine block. My question is this: If I fail to remove the studs, and find a shop willing to help for cheap, is it safe to saw of the extraneous bits of exhaust pipe, and drive the van for what might be 2 miles? On side of the engine's exhaust has already been removed. It's just the "front" side that's left... will all the hot gasses coming out of the engine damage the engine compartment?

Thanks very much for any advice... Wes '84 Vanagon 1.9l
