RE: What I think I would do first thing is to adjust the rocker's so the lifters ain't banging, then do the Dick Danger private eye on the rapping noise. In later Vanagons, mines a 1985 1.9l gas, do you EVER have to adjust these hydralic valves? I've been driving my vanagon for years, alittle noise at 1st or with old oil, but with that 2 remedies all "appears" OK. Should I check my clearances due to van's high mileage....?????
