After a fully-loaded trip to the storage area a few days ago, my engine is emitting a strange knocking/rumbling sound. I am not good enough with engines to know if its rod knock or something else. Its not that loud, and you probably wouldn't notice it walking by the Vanagon unless you were listening closely. For want of a better analogy, it sort of sounds like drumming your fingers on a table [pp-pp-pp-pph], about once per second at idle. At higher RPMS the sound speeds up. Doesn't appear to be an exhaust leak. Performance characteristics are normal.
